do you know dan reines?
cheeseblogger-48.jpg
he’s the funny dan who comments on this blog.
and though he doesn’t want to be known for this,
i told him he doesn’t really have a choice…
just like how i don’t have any other choice than
to be overly dramatic and sappy….and hot.
really hot.

he’s the one who reminds us to laugh,
and we usually thank him for that.

here’s something:

his wife sarah is a runner.
dan, however, is not.
in fact, i think it’d be fair
to say that dan oftentimes saw little value in getting up,
even to use the toilet.

that said, dan and sarah have said that they’d
like to run a marathon in leanne’s honor.
and while dan’s feet have objected, allegedly
it’s still on.

this is a truly extraordinary thing.
i mean, it’s one thing for me to ride 100 miles around lake tahoe,
but i LIKE biking. i was biking long before leanne got cancer.
and now that leanne’s beaten the cancer, i still bike.

what dan is doing is insane.
pledging to do something in a rather large way
that he has little to no talent for, and questionable affinity.

and sarah has a really taxing job at amgen
(making some of the drugs that helped leanne through the past six months)
not to mention two kids at home.

how these guys get a chance to get out and run,
i have no idea. but if you see two kids in a car, windows cracked,
in a parking lot in LA, don’t call child protective services…
it’s just the reinesseseses, trying to get in a jog.

here’s to dedication.
here’s to being honored.
and here’s to the groin, all of ours.

so, if you haven’t done it yet, or want to do it again,
support here, throw a punch yourself:

  • there’s this t-shirt, i see it now and again at tnt events. it says, “if you think running a marathon’s hard, try chemo.” it’s a good one. sarah likes it a lot. that, and thoughts of lingling, keep her going.

i have it easy. sarah runs a couple feet ahead of me. that gives me something to chase.

saturday was 17 miles. i chased her all the way home. woo hoo!

  • (also: thank you, danny.)

  • Awesome. If I can sound like my former adolescent self, totally awesome. To have friends like that…

I saw a young woman jogging the other day, wearing a Team-in-training shirt, and I thought of you all, again. So anyway, I’ll head by Dan and Sarah’s team site on payday!

  • I was sitting in Switzerland in Sarah and Dan’s apartment when they first talked of running a marathon in Lee’s honor. That was within a couple of weeks of her diagnosis. They felt at a loss for what they could do….how they could help….when they felt like they were a million miles away and couldn’t take away the cancer for you. They just knew that they needed to do this for you guys.

BTW….I heard that Dan actually was AHEAD of my sister on this weekend’s 17 mile run.
    Don’t let him fool you!

Here’s to raising lots of money to find a cure!

  • “See Dan run. Run Dan, Run.”

Beats “See Spot run” any day. What an awesome tribute to Leanne.

  • I am just finishing up chemo myself (had my port out on Wednesday) and while I believe in the sentiment on the t-shirt, I am still awed by the dedication and devotion displayed by a *non-runner* who commits to train for a marathon in honor of a friend.

  • Amazing. I like that shirt haha. Although I don’t think I’d ever survive a marathon. Maybe a mile… maybe.

  • to the gorgeous person who gave an anonymous $100 gift to the L&LS through us:

i love you. whoever you are. thank you.

  • Working on Light The Night Right Now ….All I can say is run run run and bike to. All of it helps those who need the support through the LLS.
$100 gift..never know some people are just awesome in that way!!

I love coming here always makes me feel so happy to see all of you working for the better of those with blood cancer.

    Take care everyone…Hope

  • Jen - Back in France

Sarah and Dan — you are amazing! Best of luck on the run. And thank you — for Leanne and the so many, too many, others that are fighting, and hopefully butt-kicking as beautifully as Leanne, this horrible disease.

And since I haven’t posted or emailed in a while, just a little “hey” from France to my old friend Lee, her amazing (and very funny – even in person) hubby and their completely adorable Liddy. Love you all — Jen
